Advent – preparing to welcome Christ
This is an informal, non-communion, service for people of all ages, both young and old. But we would particularly encourage those with young families to come along and join with us. The service will last about an hour and there will be refreshments afterwards, and an opportunity to meet with other people.

Knowlewood Knap: Holy Communion 2nd December 10am in the Day Room.
Hyde Place: No service of Holy Communion this month. Instead there is an invitation to hear pupils from Wool CE VA First School sing carols in the Day Room, Knowlewood Knap on 11th December at 10am.
Anyone may go along to these services especially if you feel that you are unable to access Holy Rood Church for the services there.
Prayers for the Parish: During Advent this is replaced by the Advent Meditation service. Prayer for the Parish resumes in January.
READINGS 7th December 2nd of Advent Isaiah 40.1-11 2 Peter 3.18-15a Mark 1.1-8 John the Baptist prepares the way for the coming of the Messiah by helping people to realign their lives.
14th December 3rd of Advent Isaiah 64.1-4, 8-end 1 Thessalonians 5.16-24 John 1.6-8, 19-28 In Jesus, God will be fulfilling the Messianic prophecies about the promised Saviour.
21st December 4th of Advent 2 Samuel 7.7-11 & 16 Romans 16.25-end Luke 1.26-38 God’s promised kingdom, announced both to King David in ancient times and to Mary by the angel Gabriel, will go on for ever.
24th December Christmas Eve Isaiah 52.7-10 Hebrews 1.1-12 John 1.1-14 The Word of God is made flesh. In the birth of Jesus we see God expressed in human terms.
25th December Christmas Day Isaiah 62.6-12 Titus 3.4-7 Luke 2.8-20 Jesus Christ, the world’s Saviour, is here with us, born as a human baby.
30th December 1st of Christmas Isaiah 61.10-62.3 Galatians 4.4-7 Luke 2.15-21 Just as the angels said, a Saviour has been born for us. |
