Introducing Rhona Floate: the new face at the Vicarage.
It’s a great pleasure to write my first contribution to The Parish News while preparing to come to Wool as your new priest-in-charge later this month. In the March magazine, Judy Hill wrote that the church believed that my appointment is in God’s will and timing, and that is exactly how it feels to me too. I had no hesitation in accepting the invitation to come and have continued to feel excited about it ever since. I grew up in a village in Berkshire, where I developed a love for music, spent the summer holidays messing about in boats on the Thames and regularly attended Sunday School at a local chapel. After studying music at university in Cardiff, I trained as a librarian, specialising in information services in scientific and technical environments. This included work for Wessex Water in Bristol and Bath, and about 12 years with a plant science research organisation in Sussex and Warwickshire. Meanwhile, I continued to enjoy music-making in my spare time, singing in choirs, playing piano and trombone, as well as enjoying travel and walking and contributing to church life in various ways. I returned to Bristol to train for ordination and have served my curacy in The MidFosse Parishes, which comprises four parishes and six villages near Warwick and Stratford upon Avon. It’s been a great place to gain experience and now I’m delighted to be exchanging Shakespeare territory for Hardy’s beautiful county.
