Lent Course 2017

‘To all who received him … he gave power to become children of God.’ (John 1.12.)

This raises big questions. Aren’t we all children of God anyway? Just how can we receive Christ? And what does it mean to have ‘a relationship with God’? In a course crammed with discussable questions, John Young teases out from the New Testament at least three different ways in which we receive Christ.

The course booklet is supplemented by four leading Christians, from a variety of backgrounds, speaking on the course CD. Together they demonstrate that St John’s theology in his magisterial Gospel has very practical implications for our day-to-day lives.

The course booklet includes a good selection of questions at the end of each of the five sessions, designed to stimulate wide-ranging discussion.

The participants on the course CD are:

bulletThe Rt Revd Nick Baines, Bishop of Leeds
bulletMargaret Sentamu
bulletRevd Dr Ken Howcroft, former President of Methodist Conference
bulletTheodora Hawksley, RC Theologian

The series will be on Thursdays in Lent at 2pm in the Methodist Church, and will be led by representatives of various Wool churches, as follows:

Thurs 9th March Receiving Christ: as children of God Fr Paul Keys
Thurs 16th March Receiving Christ: in the stranger and the needy Rev Chris Moreton
Thurs 23rd March Receiving Christ: in Holy Communion Dr Terry Hughes
